Guess Next Year's Opening Day Rotation
What the hell, right? Best to do this now before we see who's good and bad, and who is healthy and not healthy. It makes a better game. Popular choices include (in alphabetical order)
Detwiler, Lannan, Livan, Marquis, Maya, Olsen, Strasburg, Zimmermann, Wang
But go ahead and put Stammen in there if you want to. Free Agent "X" is fine too.
If Wang turns out to be the huge bust that he seems capable of so far... slot in Lannan for Wang.
Can't see us re-signing Livan unless we get hit with injuries again.
Olsen may be declined arbitration and move on. Detwiler? Tough one; he really seems capable in spurts.
Of the other 40-man roster spots we have for Starters right now: - Atilano, Martis, Detwiler, Thompson start at AAA - Chico, JDMartin, Stammen, Mock may be released or converted to relievers.
Hernandez needs to be kept for another year because A) His current season, B). His history with the team, C). He is historically a better pitcher in the first half.
Gusto - that Livan point about being better in the first half is intriguing. If he's signed with the clear intention of trading... that might be worth the half-season loss of a rotation spot (and that's assuming that the Nats have 5 pitchers ready Day 1). Of course I doubt they'd get more next year than they could have gotten this year but what do I know?

Olsen continues his resurgence. I hated, just hated to put Marquis' name in the lineup but 7 million bucks holds water still. Livo would be my other choice. I also predict Wang starts in the minors, Stammen finds a way on the team and Lannan is triple A. The humongous difference in next Spring is that we can actually have a plan B if a pitcher gets injured.
Strasburg

Maya
Marquis
Olsen
Lot of "ifs" built into this but, "IF" everyone is healthy i'd go with:

Zimmermann
Marquis

Wang

Olsen non tendered, Wang never makes it back. Livo offered an invite to spring camp. Stammen to long relief.
Martin, Martis, Atilano, Detweiler, Chico = Your Syracuse Skychiefs!
Harper, you've got Ryan in your rotation ;)
