Just goes to show that spring training quotes are like football previews - full of crap. Wow. I started laughing halfway through the article. Storen was so ok with not being closer that his roommate/best friend was mad as hell when he got sent down. Just wow.
Plus I just saw the Orioles got what they deserved. Dexter Fowler is going back to the Cubs on a one year deal. Haha. I can't believe any free agent would even consider Baltimore after the crap Angelos repeatedly pulls on routine physicals. I'm surprised Gallardo stayed. I'm also convinced that is why O'Day was saying he hadn't made a final decision until after his physical. Now if the Nats could just get freed of their MASN contract and get paid by comcast sports net for a legitimate regional sports channel fee.
I was really hoping for Storen to say "The 9th is mine. I close or I do nothing. Up yours, hosers! Take off, eh!" Then wander over to Bautista's locker to choke him, followed by a ceremonial untucking of his shirt tails.
D-Backs unis are terrible, btw. Clippard looks like he's bleeding from the ankles in those pants.
@Jay - Reports are that it wasn't physical-related. That Fowler demanded a 1-year opt out the Orioles were unwilling to give. Which makes either Fowler or his agent (or both) supremely stupid. Because if you wanted a 1 year opt out, why on earth would you turn down the Qualifying Offer?
Anon - I like the whole "this guy doesn't look right in this uniform" thing. I also will keep up a little on how they do for a while. It interests me and thus I'll talk about it. Usually doesn't even last a year though unless it's pertinent (like Clippard and the 2015 pen)
BJD1207 - they probably weren't looking for it until they realized they'd have to go with the O's. Expected a bigger deal or a deal on a better team. With the O's didn't want to be stuck on a losing team for 3 years on a low-end deal so changed strategy. That's my guess.
Harper, because it is looking more and more like Desmond wont get signed due to the draft pick compensation requirement, do you think it is feasible that Rizzo could sign Desmond to a palatable one year contract for say $10mm then trade him to a club that wants to avoid losing their draft pick? Say for a PTBNL, etc...
@Froggy - That's definitely an interesting loophole. But I think it'd be a very tight window to get it to work. Because in that situation the Nats would have value whatever they got back in that trade HIGHER than the draft pick they gave up, but the other team would have to value the prospects they're giving up LESS THAN the draft pick value. So you'd have to find a situation where a team is really low on a certain guy, but the Nats are really high on him.
I'm glad the guy who was so obviously butt hurt about repeatedly being removed from the closers spot is completely cool now with not being a closer.
ReplyDeleteHe was good about it after a year with Soriano the first time, now it only took a few months and a trade to another team. Maturity!
ReplyDeleteAre you... trolling us, Harper?!
