Not so sure the Nats are thinking this is the year before "the year"....I guess we will know when they make a decision about Bryce. My gut tells me this team is average at best and maybe only a game or two better than last year.
Harper: Why do you think the Nats wouldn't match 9 mill/year for 4 years? Seems like a low price to pay for such high reward potential. At that price, why not give it a shot? We need a CF and Cespedes projects to be average at worst (at least after he plays a little bit of AAA ball).
I think the Nats have several good, young prospects for CF. Cespedes is still just a prospect. I don't think he comes in and starts right away. So I don't see him filling a need. They need a CF for 2012. 2014 is probably covered if they can't find a long term solution before then.
Anon - Anonymous accusations of PED use. Finally what the internet is all about (but I agree on the glad he didn't sign)
blovy8 - not Bartolo Colon?
Angels12 - for me,sure. Not for the fans. I think they are better than an 82 win team but 82 wins isn't crazy with a reasonable bit of bad luck.
A12 is Crazy - Right now I like 85/86 as the most likely outcome - 82 might not be likely but it isn't crazy. Now is Angels12 crazy in other ways? That I don't know.
Greg - I assume it's too much unknown for the Nats to feel like taking a chance. A lot of people think he's got definite holes in his game and that he could fail spectacularly. The closer you move toward needing wins now the less of a gambling a team tends to be.
Donald - yeah things may be different if Cespedes was a sure thing, but most people think the best move is to start him out in AAA and cross your fingers he gets it. If he does start with the A's as planned and does well there are a lot of teams, not just the Nats, that will be kicking themselves.
I'm more worried that Aoki will play good OF and hit league average. He's being paid a pittance.
I was on the Aoki train from the beginning. I thought he was the perfect risk for the next two years until someone (Goodwin, Perez, Hood)in our farm could take over.
What is his contract like, can the Brewers trade him when Braun gets back? if so, that was some awesome GM work by the Brewers.

Good, I'm glad Nats didn't sign this guy. I don't have a good feeling about him. He's a stud now, but wait til the PEDs wear off.
At least they have one athletic now. That youtube proves it.

82-80 good enough?
They are unbelievably improved from last season. Looks like an 85+ win team easy.

Allison, you have to give Colon credit, his last name is also his prominent feature, there's no mistaking the guy.
