Quick q

So this spam thing. Would it be a pain if I made you guys log in to comment? Right now it's not so bad that I can't handle it (when I'm not on work travel - smart guy) but I don't know if it'll get substantially worse once the season starts. Any suggestions or ideas?

You get really polite spam, so it hasn't been a bother to me, yet, but I'm fine with whatever you choose.

Having dealt with the comment spam issue myself (you have a blog?!), I know it's a pain. I'm OK with logging in if necessary.

It seems to me that it takes a day or so for the spammers to latch on. Once the season starts, the blog pace is quicker and there were fewer spams. But if logging in helps Harper out, I'm fine with it.

I'm fine with it. I am a very sophisticated robot that can get past your puny attempts to prove me human.

I had to buy an anti-spam plugin for my Wordpress-based blog, which really handled the issue. I don't know what to tell you for blogger.com.

I'm ok logging into comment.

Logging in to comment is fine with me too.

I'm fine with logging in, although it might preclude me from making snarky comments about particularly silly Boswell columns (like the one from this morning).

I wouldn't hold it against you.

However, my workplace blocks all social sites, so I never comment on those sites that require a log-in (which is all of them except this one!)
I will continue reading regardless of being able to post comments because of the frequent and reliably high quality of writing.

I always log in anyway, so it's okay by me.

No problem. If it makes your life easier, go for it.

I won't log in (used to comment occasionally on natsinsider before the change in policy; never since). That said, I will keep reading, and to be brutally honest I probably don't add much anyways.

You might accomplish the same result by just including a captcha-type thing in order to post; I don't know if that's an option.

I'm down with whatever you want to do, Harper. Either way i'll still read and comment.

I'm down so long as "signing in" can be just name/url. If you want to require a google account, that's fine too, but I probably wouldn't post anymore (not that my posts are that enlightening anyway)

I don't get spammed, because I don't elect to get the emails, I just check the blog every day. i log in anyway so its up to you.

I can log in, but it might lead me to comment slightly less often. This may be a good thing?

But I do understand the hassles of spam, so do whatever it takes.
