Re-entry post

Do not trade Gorzelanny! (well... don't trade him just because) And don't make him a long reliever. The idea that there isn't room for him in the rotation is nonsense. There is room for him. There isn't room for someone else. Like someone with more injury concern, older age, worse stats, and/or no history of pitching a full season. It's not like Gorzelanny is awesome or anything but it's easier to make a case for him in the rotation than it is for Maya, and maybe Lannan... or Marquis... or even Livan.

It is sad that it is so easy to make a case for that.

What did I miss? Who is talking about trading Gorzelanny?

+1/2st - I know. I thought of coming up with a "if a contending team could take any of these guys to be their #3 starter..." scenario then realized the answer would be "they wouldn't". They'd only start looking at these guys at #4/#5 guys. (though they would be happy to have Zimmermann in their organization - just wouldn't rely on him)

Wally - for all I know, just Ladson.

I'm with Wally - Who is talking about trading Gorzelanny? I don't see how he's not pencilled into the rotation with Livo, Lannan, Marquis and Zimmermann. Opening rotation is probably Livo-Z(nn)-Lannan-Marquis-Gorzelanny, but that's only to tip the had to Livo for last season and to split up the lefties. I expect by midseason Livo will have slid into the Bautista rubber-armed swing man role, with the best of Maya, Detwiler or Stammen taking his place.

While I think that Gorzelanny has a better opening case for the rotation than Marquis or Maya, I don't think that's true for Lannan. Gorzelanny probably has more upside than Lannan, but other than the first couple months of 2010, Lannan has been a consistently effective (if sometimes hard to watch) ML starter over three seasons. He's young, finished strong last year, and (like Gorzelanny) left handed.
