Ummm... well he's an average lefty offensive player that fields ok that has mild upside potential.The contract is reasonable so if he has a decent year you can probably flip him for a A-ball lottery ticket. The Nats also are fine with having these 1yr whatever players because they want the kids up later this year, or first thing next.
This makes the signing ok... if they didn't already make this signing with Joey Gallo. OK Gallo walks more and hits for lower average and is younger but otherwise pretty similar.
I guess this would solidify the situation to be Gallo or Meneses at 1B, the other at DH, Eddie in the OF?
These are better signings than say Corey Dickerson, worse than Jeimer Candelario. Make with it as you will. You don't project that this improves the Nats chances but you do start nudging out guys like Alex Call or Jake Alu who'd probably not be on another team's bench. Pushing out the chaff has value I guess.

Eddie Rosario could make that 0.4 in LF into a 0.8 and shift some Gallo time to DH making that a 0.4. Look at that. A 59.1 team win, thank you very much.

My take is that this means Stone is further out from playing than originally anticipated, and they don't have faith in Meneses. I can't really see any other good reason to make this signing.
And if they do keep Rosario, pretty much insures no Wood to start the season. Is there anybody on the team worth coming out to the park to watch? Maybe only Abrahms.
To me the signing of Rosario is mostly bad news for Winker and (possibly) Meneses. Meneses is at least RH; it could reduce Meneses to the short side of a platoon bat. It wouldn't surprise me if Rosario was a player that the Nats wanted more, but he was looking for too much money until now.
As for anybody worth coming out to the park to watch, hey, I'm a baseball fan. I like having a local team to watch. YMMV. And I think it would be malpractice to rush any of the prospects (Wood; House; Crews; Hassell; Morales; Pinkney; etc.) up as a publicity stunt. And while it's fun that the top four kids are playing well in FL, I don't confuse that with meaning that they are ready. Just because ST stats are the only stats we have so far this year doesn't mean that they are useful. Last year the best Nats hitter was: Alex Call.
I see trades coming. Outfielders for starting pitchers.
I'll take Gallo and Rosario over Cesar Hernandez and Maikel Franco and Corey Dickerson and Alcides Escobar and Dee Strange-Gordon and Jordy Mercer and Alex Avila every time.
Although based on that track record, this will be Gallo and Rosario's final MLB season.
Nattydread, the only OF that would get them a decent starting pitcher are the players (Wood, Crews) that I don't want them to trade.
