Off the Right Side of the Plate or Getting the W

The opening day has moved (to the 14th of April) and W will throw out the first pitch. Say what you will about the man's politics, but as a first pitch thrower he gets the ball over the plate. I appreciate that. Still part of me wishes that he wasn't able to so we could go back to the presidential box throw. Looks like Coolidge might have been the real inventor of the splitter. And that's an awful picture of JFK, he's got like 45 chins. Nixon...rearing back for the girly toss.

I had a different scenario in mind. In order to assuage opposition to the new stadium, Councilman (former Mayor-for-Life) Marion Barry is selected to throw out the first pitch. He rears back, and makes a lousy throw to Livan Hernandez on the mound. The ball is five feet wide, and rolls to a stop on the infield grass, as the whole stadium laughs at Barry's ineptitude. Barry -- never a great exemplar for taking responsibility -- is convinced that Livan could have caught it, but chose not to. Angry and humiliated, Barry snarls over the stadium PA, "Pitcher set me up!"

Just my little perverse fantasy. :>
